Male escort requirements: what the agency looks for

There is no checklist that guarantees a place, but there is a clear picture of the kind of man clients book again. This page sets it out, including the parts that rule people out.

The fixed conditions

A few things are simply yes or no.

You are 21 or older. The agency does not take on anyone younger, whatever the legal minimum may be in a particular country.

You are heterosexual. TMC represents straight male escorts only. The clients are women and male-female couples, and they book on that understanding. Men looking for straight male escort jobs sometimes assume this is a matter of presentation. It is not. A client can tell when a man is not at ease with women.

You are willing to travel. Bookings come from across Europe and sometimes from further away, and a fair share of the agency’s clients are international regulars. An escort who can only work within his own postcode will see few requests.

You accept the health rules. Safe sex only, without exception, and a full STI and HIV test every three months.

You handle your own affairs. You are self-employed, so your tax and paperwork are your own responsibility. The page on law and tax for male escorts in the UK explains the outline.

Appearance

Looks matter, and it would be dishonest to say otherwise. A client chooses from photographs before she has heard you speak. But “attractive” covers more ground than most applicants expect. The agency is not looking for one body type or one age group. It is looking for men who look after themselves and who look like the photographs on their profile when they arrive.

Grooming carries as much weight as bone structure. That means skin, hair, hands, teeth and nails in good order, clothes that fit, and shoes that have been looked at recently. A man with an ordinary face who is immaculate will usually do better than a handsome one who is careless.

The application form asks for your height and weight. This is so the profile is accurate, because a client who was expecting someone different feels misled within seconds, and that booking is lost before it starts.

Conversation and manners

Every booking begins with two strangers in a room, and for the first twenty minutes your job is to make that feel easy. That takes real conversation: asking questions and listening to the answers, having something to say about more than yourself, and knowing when to be quiet.

Clients come from every walk of life and from all over the world. Many are used to good company. A sound general education and good manners are therefore part of the male escort requirements, not a bonus. So is being comfortable in a good hotel or restaurant without making a show of it.

Languages help. English is enough to start, and every further language you speak well widens the range of clients who can book you.

Character

The qualities TMC names are life experience, self-confidence, a service-minded attitude and empathy. They are easier to recognise than to define.

Life experience means you have dealt with enough people and situations that an unfamiliar one does not unsettle you. It tends to come with age, which fits with the agency’s minimum of 21.

Confidence means being at ease, which is different from being pleased with yourself. Clients are quick to notice the difference, and vanity puts them off.

A service-minded attitude is the one applicants most often underestimate. The booking is about her evening. An escort who is mainly interested in his own enjoyment, or in being admired, does not get rebooked.

Empathy is the working tool. Many clients are nervous, particularly the first time. Some have not been close to anyone for a long time. Reading that correctly, and adjusting without being asked, is most of the skill.

Reliability and respect

An agency sells one thing above all: the certainty that the man the client booked will arrive, on time, as described. An escort who cancels late, answers messages a day later or turns up flustered damages that for everyone. Reliability therefore counts for as much as charm.

Respect means treating every client well regardless of her age, figure or background, keeping to what was agreed, and keeping what you learn about her to yourself for good.

Can it be learned?

The practical side can. TMC briefs every new escort fully, explains how bookings work in practice and goes on coaching afterwards. What cannot be taught is the foundation: the ease with women, the manners, the instinct for another person’s mood. No course installs those.

This is worth stating plainly because there are websites that sell training or charge a registration fee to men who want to become a gigolo, and then deliver no bookings. A serious agency does not charge you to apply. At TMC there is no registration fee, no interview fee, and no charge for photographs or anything you are told to buy.

Who is usually not accepted

Most applications are turned down. With thousands arriving each year and only a handful of new profiles, that is unavoidable, and it often says more about photographs than about the man.

Some patterns recur. Applications with fewer than five photos, or with sunglasses in every shot, cannot be assessed. One-line motivations suggest the applicant has not thought about it. Men who write mainly about their own appetite have misunderstood the job. And men who expect a steady wage tend to leave quickly, because there is none.

If you recognise yourself in the main part of this page, the next step is to read what male escort work is really like and then how the selection process works.

Next step

Read enough to decide?

The application takes about fifteen minutes and costs nothing. You need five clear photos and honest answers.
